Sarla sings " Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye" and dedicates the same to Mahatma Gandhi (Bapu) on his Birthday October 2nd.
The 15th century poet Narsi Mehta was from the community of Nagar Brahmin also known as Narsi Bhagat from Junagadh.
The well known bhajan "Vaishnav Jan To" was a favorite hymn of Mahatma Gandhi.
This bhajan was also used in Richard Attenborough's movie "Gandhi"
Mahtam Gandhi's full name was Mohandas Karmchand Gandhi.
Born in Porbandar in 1869, raised in Rajkot,
He did his primary to high school in Rajkot.
One of his ideal and guru was Shri Raichandbhai Ravjibhai Mehta.
He was born in 1867 A. D. at Vavania Taluka Morbi in Saurashtra.
Almost same age as Gandhi but he was tirthkar.
Raichandbhai was the person who gave deep knowledge of religion to Gandhi.
If there was no Shri Raichand Bhai, there would not have been Mahtama Gandhi and if there was no Bapu,India would not have been free.
His influence stayed with him for rest of his life.

Listen a Song of Thar Palkar ( To day in Pakistan Sindh Area )
Thar - is the name of desert, and this desert created beacause of River Saraswathi dried up. The area Thar is a paL (means desert ) covering Rajastan, Kutch and Sindh, Baluchistan (both in pakistan).
We migrants of Saurashtra called ourself as paLkar. This " paLkar " word means people of desert and Rain shadow areas.
Our ancestors told us that we are lived in sorrounding places of Somnath / Prabhas patan. Prabhas patan / Veraval is in Rain shadow area. We can call this area as Starting point of desert ( paL = desert in Saurashtra language ) OR end point of Thar desert. The people who belongs to this paL desert are called as paLkar.
This paL desert called as " Parkar " in Pak. region.
This Video belongs to Thar Parkar of Pakistan.
In this song, I cant mean much words, but I hope I overcome this (not sure). But Dont miss the melody, & and The Temple shown at very last of this Video and People of Thar.
Like Saurashtra Palkar people, the ' Sha ' community of India spreaded over many regions in India and Pakistan. The Sha people's origin is Rajastan's Thar palkar. They mentioned that their ancestrol probably begins from ' Sahasra Raja OR Sagar Raja ' Clan. The spoken Dialect of ' Sha ' people is much resembles Sourashtra of South India. A considerable population of ' Sha ' community existing in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.
Though they are considered as ' Kshatriya ' in olden days, but today generally they are also known as Weaving community like Sourashtra community of Tamil Nadu. The Sourashtra community of Tamil Nadu is community of ' Veenkar ' (weaver community ). The Veenkaar community is called as in Gujarat as ' VaNkar ' ( Derived from Sanskrit term : Vayana kAra ). We assume that Tamil Nadu Sourastra's are belongs to Brahman and VaNkar / Veenkaar community; who are migrated from Saurashtra.
" You came to this world as Avatar for Sake of all. - A long way travel from your holy Vaikund makes your feet pain. So
I swing your bed... to get sleep for you
During Vamana Avatar, you measured all the world, so your feet feels pain.. - so
I swing your bed... to get sleep for you
During Rama avatar you made a hit a stone, the stone re-birthed as akalya.. so your feet feels pain.. -so
I swing your bed... to get sleep for you
During Kurma avatar you made churn the ocean... so your back feels pain - so
I swing your bed... to get sleep for you ''

Sweet and beautiful Varnam in the raga Swarashtram (Not Sowrashtram) composed by Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna sung by Prince Rama Varma and the students of Veenavadini School of music at Perla. Varmaji told me that when Dr.Balamuralikrishna sang this song for the first time more
than four decades ago, somebody accused him of singing wrong phrases in raga Sowrashtram.
Dr.Balamuralikrishna quipped that since it was the 25th anniversary of Independance of India at the time, he had named the raga "Swarashtram" which was slightly different from Sourashtram :-) This uses phrases
from Sourashtram, Chakravakam and Suryakanthi and the entire varnam is composed around the three notes, Sa, Pa and Sa. This recording was made by the cameramen of Bhakthi TV who are based in Hyderabad, who travelled for 24 hours all the way to Perla, which is a little village near Mangalore, to cover Varmaji's three day workshop there.
I admire their spirit, the spirit of the Perla kids and their guru Mr.Yogeesh Sharma and of Varmaji for the wonderful
job they are doing and I am happy to share at least these few videos with all of you. Though I had never heard this varnam before, I have already fallen in love with it with this one single recording :-)
